Any work in Dallas

Veteran

Billy Cullins San Angelo, TX

I am looking for work in Dallas./Fort Worth, Texas. Currently I live in San Angelo, Texas, but am moving to Lewisville, TX on or around June 8. I have a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Border Security and, as of May 16, I will have a Master of Science in Homeland Security with a 4.0 GPA.

I am not looking for a Police Officer or Border Patrol job, but anything in a related security, emergency management, or other field.

Thank-you!

With Respect,

Billy D. Cullins

Billy,
Have you tried using Google to start your job search? I did a quick Google for "Security Jobs in Dallas" and found more than 60 open, advertised positions. http://jobs.monster.com/v-security-l-dallas,-tx.aspx. I suspect many won't meet your requirements so you may try to narrow down your broad search to jobs that meet your specific needs - salary, benefits, advancement opportunities, working conditions, travel time, and so forth. Also, your BS and MS degrees are relevant to other fields outside of security and emergency management like General Manager.
So where do you begin? Start with the end in mind. If you had to choose only one future job, what would it be? For example, Emergency Management Director for the City of Dallas? Then, work it back to today. You should be able to identify many entry level positions that will get you on the path to your desired end position. The more focused you are, the more competitive you will be because you will know why you want the job and how the job will help you get to your goal. You may also want to join a professional association related to end goal. For example, consider "National Emergency Management Association" so you can get more training, certifications, and opportunities to network with professionals in this line of work. Some also have job opening listings, job requirements, and position descriptions so you can focus your resume and applications.
Getting a good job is a lot of work! I know you are up to it.
Good luck!
Walt

Looking at my contacts, you may want to check out Trident Response Group (TRG). They are located in Dallas and their CEO, Clint Bruce is prior service. He is also one of the organizers and supporters of "Carry the Load".

A little research should help you reach out. Your background looks very good and all organizations while maybe not looking for people are looking for talent.

All the Best.

The other posters have nailed it. Dallas is full of jobs right now, you just have to know where to look. I would like to suggest you do some searching on LinkedIn as well. You can often find good connections to help you get the job you want. They also have a jobs posting page that you can search.

I do resume review, if you would like help with that just send it to me. Since I'm in the North Dallas area I'll keep my eyes open.

Good Luck

Billy,

Greetings and thank you for your service. What I can offer are some positions with the State in Department of Public Safety and Family Services. Some really vary, but there seem to be a good number in the metroplex. While the salary isn't great there are plenty of doors open to move up in the same field and get higher levels in the same "family" of jobs with some exams, etc. within a few months.

Hint: When checking cities, also check Austin. That's where they will post positions that are open for a multitude of cities, instead of having to check one by one. The state lumps them there. Presently there are a boatload of openings for people who monitor registered sex offenders. Tons.

Great benefits and opportunities with the State, even though I haven't landed one yet. I'm gunning for Children Protective Services.

Here's the link.

Best of luck and thanks again for your service.

I concur with Walt's excellent answer. I would also suggest "indeed.com". You can use key words / terms, and it will return matches. And, it will align them by salary. So, if you're interested in making a certain amount, you will be able to see the job descriptions and requirements. You should be able to quickly identify jobs that match your skills, at a salary you desire, and be able to discern if you can go for more $ than expected.

Indeed also retains your searches, and provides updates of new postings. I did a quick search for "emergency management" & "Dallas-Ft Worth", which netted 17 jobs in excess of $100k and many more at lower salary ranges.

I find it to be a very user-friendly site.

Best of luck!

Regards,
Brock
