Tami, the best response I can give you is, "it depends." Depends on your location, your availability (full-/part-time), your interests, etc. I'd look at some job websites (monster.com, etc.) and narrow down to your area and interests. If you have any contacts in local companies which interest you, leverage them as well. It turns out many times that it is not who you know, it's who they know. Finally, if you have the time, get involved in some non-profits or community service organizations - they are a great way to expand your contacts.

Hi Tami,

Based on your background and urgency, suggest you might explore temporary agency so they can find jobs that consistent with your qualification.
The below link is the Kelly Service offices (very big national company) in CT. Suggest go to the nearest location and see a councilor face to face with your resume (don’t just send resume). Many temporary jobs turn to permanent if the employee performs well.

As you gain more working experience, then you can search for more permanent jobs on your own.

I am a wife of a Navy veteran and have been looking for a job ever since we moved back to CT 3 years ago. I have had 1 temporary job that lasted for 4 weeks last year. Since then I have been putting application after application in whether online or going to the businesses them selves to no avail. Now our bills are piling up and without me working my husband (who has a job), is finding it hard. I want to help, but without a job I can't. I'm at my wits end. I have experience as a medical assistant but no one will hire me. I can also do server and some cashiering. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

As a military wife myself and a hiring manager, I'd say go where your interests lead you. Then let your enthusiasm for the job convince them you should be hired. It can be difficult to be taken seriously because companies often worry that a military wife won't stay long. You can use your interview to educate them to all the benefits of hiring a military wife!
