I am working on my resume in preparation for the end of my internship and I have used the same format for a couple of years. I am ready to change up the formatting and make edits where needed.
I have used the resume template from Hire Heroes and want to change it to something that matches my style better. I am also looking to see if my resume is clear.
I am looking for a marketing expert to help because I do want to know if my resume uses the correct marketing keywords and phrases.

Hello, Alfred
First and foremost, thank you for your service to our country. I am also a US Navy veteran and left the Navy after four years to pursue a career in marketing. I have worked for several high technology and medical corporations as the Director of Marketing Communications and Public Relations and many, many years as a freelance consultant which is what I do today.
Resumes can be a great conduit to get a job but also can work against you. I agree with Mary Burns that there is a wide range of skills and competencies for you to promote about your capabilities and one of the best resume formats to do that with is a functional resume, versus an historical one. In a functional resume you can create the categories you excel at and the experience you have in that particular area and that approach will showcase your value to the company you are applying to.
As Mary mentioned, marketing crosses many areas. Product marketing. Corporate communications. Investor relations. Advertising. Public relations. Internet marketing and traditional marketing. So narrowing down your focus area, i.e., product marketing and then building your resume around that area is the best approach and will get you the most attention.
I think you should consider attending the American Marketing Association meetings and networking events in your area and talk directly to marketing professionals who can give your experience-based guidance on your career goals.
No doubt Mary's offer to work on resume with you with be very valuable to you.
Good luck and much success in your new career.
