I am an RN & prior Navy girl who has the desire to work with Veterans. I am inquiring to see if anyone can tell me if having a Bachelor’s in Psychology would have an impact on me getting hired in with the VA. Any hints or tips would be appreciated!
Thank you,

Thank you all for the response.
I think volunteering is a great idea I just need to find the time to do it. But this is important to me so I'm sure I'll be able too.
Looking back over my resume I see that it starts off strong then dwindles a bit. I need to go back over and redo it. I try to make sure I get the points of each job to match up with my resume.
Thank you again for taking the time to respond.
Hi Priscilla -
I'm an active duty Nurse Corps Officer, and was once a petty officer myself. The VA jobs are all advertised via USAjobs.gov - the person writing the position description will delineate whether or not the bachelors needs to be in nursing or if a related field is acceptable - often the ADN will be acceptable, and a bachelors degree wil get you a bump in pay.I've hired ADN RN's in the past with bachelors in other fields to work in military hospitals, as they met the pd requirements. You may also want to look up definitions of veteran preference etc to see if those rules apply to your situation.
Best of luck!
Priscilla,
Thanks for your service and for your desire to help and work with Veterans.
I googled your question and found:

Perhaps visit your local VA hospitals, clinics, homes, etc. and ask about opportunities to volunteer. Volunteering might be a way go get a "foot in the door" and an "insider's perspective".
