While I initially aspired to become a UK qualified solicitor recent nativist politics have made my future immigration position in the UK untenable. I have an above average GPA, have edited an edition of my law school's journal and established my school's first arbitration/mediation society (80+ members in our first semester).
While I am currently applying to several extremely competitive LLM programs (Georgetown, Harvard, UPenn, NYU, U of Michigan) I am trying to come up with a contingency plan/a plan for what to do between now and the fall of 2017.
I also need help getting pro bono hours for the NY bar requirement. The UK system is simply not geared toward this requirement.
Please limit advice to current/former legal or compliance practitioners.

Daniel, I think there is a disconnect between the header summarizing your question and the question that follows. I am not sure what you're asking, but I'll do my best to respond.
Regarding pro bono requirements in NY, FAQsBarAdmission.pdf is a link to an excellent Q&A that should answer your questions. You don't need to perform your pro bono service in NY - it can be performed in another state or country if you follow the rules discussed in the Q&A.
Where did you go to law school? When did you graduate? Have you been admitted to practice in any state? There is a path to admission to both the NY and DC bars (and possibly others) if you attended law school in the UK.
