I oversaw a training and readiness program for 15 thousand solders in a time of war, I managed city sized installations overseas with a 34 million dollar budget and a population of over 6 thousand. Everything from force protection to local national bus routes. Now I'm ready to go to work in the civilian sector. I know I have skills that can be of use but have not looked for a job in over 30 years. How to I market my skills? I'm on linked in and have a good resume. Looking for networking contacts for advice and leads.

Thanks to all of you who provided advice. I have a good cover letter template. I use the template to customize the cover letter to the company, position, and individual I'm writing to in HR (if I have their name). I also have several versions of my resume which I have customized to emphasize different strengths as I place applications in different fields. I have converted my military skills to descriptions of the civilian equivalents. I did this with the assistance of several helpful people with HR experience. I think it is a solid product, and added to your advice a better beginning.

Kyle- Yoh have to write a resume explaining your background. Emphasize your management and training skills, education, etc. You can find good examples on the Internet. You can also join LinkedIn, an online service that recruiters use. Ask friends, relatives, etc. for any leads and Mary seems like a good start. Good luck!
