Employment Assistance in the Tampa Florida area

Veteran

Henry Hampton Tampa, FL

Hello,
My name is Henry Hampton, I just moved to Tampa, FL back in Dec 2013. I have been working in the IT field for the past several years, most recently as an Information Systems Manager, but I have found it very difficult to land a fulltime position here. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Henry - it could be the area that you're living in. Dallas is a "hot" spot for technical/IT careers. I know that for many, the way they get into organizations is by working Contract. There are literally thousands of IT recruiting firms that help place workers in a temp to perm or contract to perm situation. Many of our IT folks came from those very recruiting agencies. Let me know if you'd like for me to take a look at your resume or assist you in any other way.

Hi Henry.

Thanks for your many years of service.

If you don't have Linked In account, get one. It's a great way to network. You want to have a great profile, but you also want to join groups that are in the field you want to be in and then actively participate in them. In my last job search, every job interview I went on was because of networking through Linked In. I even met people through Linked In that gave me contract work. Every time you see a job you are interested, check Linked In to see if you know someone who works there or if your connections know someone - then reach out and get your resume hand delivered by someone internal.

You may also want to see if there a local Whine N Dine group in your area which is a great way to network.

Don't give up. Finding the right job takes time.

Don't hesitate to reach out if I can be of any assistance.

Good luck.

Michele

Hi Henry,

Many thanks for your service!

Tampa is now booming with corporate industry. Reach out to Human Resource specialists and employment agencies to help you get in the door. Look on line at companies you know of down there, i.e. Citicorp, Depository Trust Company, etc. See what they have in terms of availability. There are many, but don't give up and my first go to, would be agencies. I would be happy to review your resume for assistance! Feel free to email me.

Henry,

The most important thing is not to give up. Things may take time. However, failure is not an option, right? Take advantage and sharpen your resume, as well as practice interview skills. Then, just apply and apply. Determination and resilience is what will set you apart from many others.

Of course, you also will need to determine for yourself whether you are mobile, or you'd like to stay in Tampa area. Wider geographical range may mean wider choices too...

Good luck!

Mamed
