GS Civilian Position commensurate w/ Military SKA & College Education

Veteran

Ian Bernard U S A F Academy, CO

I retire, 1 June 2014 and I'm looking for opportunities to serve as middle manager or higher position (GS-9 and above) in either a Federal (DOD or VA) or State Veterans level in the states of CO or TX.

Thankfully, I have two career options: my current AFSC 4T072 or Histopathology Medical Laboratory Technologist or where my passion lies as a State Veterans Nursing Home Administrator (NHA). I am fully qualified (educated and certified) and experienced (20 years) in the former career but hope for an Administrator in Training (AIT) opportunity to begin a second career after military service in the latter aforementioned career. I will sit for the National and State licensing exam for the latter career. And although, my Masters in Healthcare Administration and Graduate Certificate in Gerontology qualifies me with the knowledge as well as my 14+plus years of medical and military management and leadership serving as a NCO or NCOIC with some experience, an AIT will target the necessary skills and abilities needed for the career of an NHA.

Are there any mentors willing to assist with my plight ? ian.bernard@comcast.net

Sincerely
Ian Bernard

Ian,

I will help you where I can although am not in the world of healthcare at all (I am stronger in IT). This is my suggestion: identify a few companies/hospitals in your area who might be potential candidate employers for you. If you are not now, join LinkedIn and see if you can connect with some of their current employees - and/or call their HR departments. Let them know who you are and what your goals are and ask for mentors. Normally if somebody invest in being your mentor they will also recommend you to their organization - or one that they know.
