What is the likelihood of landing making a successful transition into Healthcare Administration?

As a Navy Nurse Corps Officer with 21 years of service, I am a bit relunctant about taking the plunge into the civilian healtcare pool. Although, I've been planning to retire for a fews years now, I'm sensing some cold feet beneath me. I am currently finishing up a Healthcare MBA to compliment my BSN and MSM. I realize that networking will be a big part of whether I land the right job or not. However, I'd like a better since of my marketibility. Do I have a fighting chance at an Administrator or Assistant Administrator job when I retire?

Thanks Ryan, David R., and David S. for your feedback and advice. I will definitely apply at the VA when the time comes. I haven't applied for a civilian job in over twenty years. David S., I think love your idea of writing to the CEO's & Presidents and leveraging your veteran status. That would seem especially effective with the many CEO's & Presidents in the industry that have military backgrounds themselves. Thanks.

The Veterans Administration is always hiring people with a health care background. Go to usajobs.gov and do a search under agency Department of Veterans Affairs.

Marlow,
I am a branch manager of a commercial trailer dealership and was recently looking for an administrative assistant with a background in the transporation industry. I received over two-hundred seventy applications in a three week period and most of them were out-of-work healthcare administrative professionals and recent graduates. The others were out-of-work accounting and banking professionals. I did not fill the assistant position.
