Hello, My name is Levuris Smith and I recently separated from the military in 09/2012. I was let go due to the D.O.D. Enlisted Retention Board (ERB). I got a job with the Norfolk Southern Corp. As a conductor shortly after I got out but was laid off in 09/2013 due to the shortage of work in Jacksonville, Fl. I have been back on the job search every since then. I have a BA in Social and Criminal Justice and I am in my fourth class of my MBA at the University of Phoenix. I need some help and tips on how to rewrite my resume to get a a corporate business job or management position in a company. I feel that I have all the tool but I cannot find a job, please help my out. I was found this website on military.com and I was reading that you guy are good at what you do so I am hoping to get some helpful words and actions.

Would you mind emailing your resume? I've helped several people with resume and networking tips who are former Navy. Send to Valerie d0t cortez1 at gmail d0t com
Are you willing to relocate if necessary or prefer to focus in your current geographic area?
Hi Levuris, I would be happy to assist you as well. Do you have a LinkedIn profile? If not, I can help you develop one. It is an essential tool for networking, finding and applying for positions that are truly open (as they are posted by the employer) - not just an aggregated job board like so many.

Hi Levuris, thanks for your service to our country. I've been in HR for 20+ years. I see that Ms. Cortez above will help with your resume. After you and she get that fined tuned, and dedcide if you are willing to relocate and to where, and what job/field/industry(s) you have in mind, and if you haven't already done so, you might want to create a profile on LinkedIn. This is a very good way to get your resume information out into the public and look for jobs that match your experience, skills, education and goals. You can also set up connections to many other people you know, and build a network of people that may also help in finding a job.
Good luck...
For your resume, start writing out a draft resume with all your skills written in concise form, for each job skill you've achieved, for each company or military outfit you've worked for. Have also, a section for your education, listed. If you need my help to rewrite your resume, you can email me at junermassoud@hotmail.com, and we'll talk by email. Give me some time to devote to it, it won't get done in a couple of days, or maybe I'll just guide you on how to do it and you could do it yourself. We'll see. Let's try. Best, June
Hi Levuris
Thanks for your service!
Attached is the job posting link is to J&J Vistakon headquarter in Jacksonville where you are located. They are doing reasonably well and expanding. No knowing your background in details and interest, check this link frequently.

Let me know if you applied a job (assuming you updated your resume). May be I can do some internal connection for you.
Good Luck!

Levuris, I would be happy to look at your resume. I agree with a couple of other advisors that suggested you consider relocating and I would also suggest consideration of the career field that would most inspire you. Over the years I've done a number of "jobs" and they had nothing to do with my education preparation. I am advocating that our returning military personnel consider business broker and ownership. Over the next 5 to 10 years a large number of businesses will be on the market. Let me know if I can give you some specific advice. I want to focus on your statement, "get to where I want to be."
