I am currently working in the reserves as a Healthcare Specialist and work at Vons as a courtesy clerk. Going to school full time to become a firefighter, just wondering if there are any career opportunities in the medical field for someone of my experience

Jeremy,
I posted this question to the "Veteran Mentor Network" group on LinkedIn, and received a helpful response.

"programs that enable military-trained medics to use military training towards medical careers, certification or education?"
Q: "Does anyone know of up-and-running programs that enable military-trained medics to use military training towards careers, certification or education in the civilian medical field? This article touches on the topic. I am looking for more current information, and hopefully actual certification or educational programs to which I can refer Veterans.

Here is a list of schools that have programs that help Veterans become a Physician Assistant. A few have excellent programs to help veterans.

I have researched salaries and that was about the conclusion I came up with. I was setting a goal to become a Medical Technologist and then moving on to become a nurse from there.
Jeremy, Have you researched typical salaries for these positions: firefighter, nurse, nurse-practitioner, medical technologist and medical assistant?
Here is some data I gathered from indeed.com . It is crude and rough, so certainly perform you own research. The firefighetr salary seem sa little low to me, but that is just my guess.
Firefighter $43k
Medical Assistant $43K
Medical technologist $54K
Nurse: $63K
Registered Nurse $67K
Nurse Practitioner $96K
Also see salary.com, craigslist, etc.
If you have an interest in nursing, also see: https://acp-advisornet.org/question/961/resources-to-help-explore-a-transition-from-military-to-nursing-careerss
My goal has been to become a medicall technoligist or assistant at the va. I've applied for numerous positions but nothing

Jeremy - have you explored a career in nursing or as a doctor? I have a friend who is a former U.S. Army Infantryman that is a Flight Nurse, and he enjoys the career.
I was exploring alternate csreer opportunities.
Jeremy - is your goal a job for now until you become a firefighter, or are you also exploring potential career alternatives to firefighting? Medical school, nurse practitioner and nursing are all options worth researching further.
This article touches on the topic. Might be worth a call to your Senator and Congressperson ... they might even pick up the phone themselves. I'd also call or email ACP and ask if they can help you find the answer. I believe several of ACP's corporate sponsors are in the medical industry.
