Hi Andrei - to address "Are you aware of cases in which a Vet translated military planning skills in commercial strategy or operations side of consulting?"

There are tremendous opportunities to leverage your military planning skills in strategy and operations for consulting. As a Veteran, I found that the complexities and risk management associated with military planning have direct applicability to much of our work. It's the "thinking behind the planning" that we find value in. Taking a holistic look at the needs of our client organizations and simultaneously considering external and internal factors and risks is central to building successful plans and strategies. If you were to think about how your experience has enabled you to build this skill set, then I think you will find the connection/translation. In my experience as a Vet working in Deloitte Strategy and Operations service area, this is the beauty of consulting - it is in many ways a commitment to a way of thinking and that thinking can come from a range of prior experiences. Good luck!

Andrei - Are there specific industries requiring increased consulting services, and what consulting skills are in demand? Answer: as mentioned, I believe virtually every industry will continue to demand top notch consulting skills. However, there are intersections of industry and capabilty that are "hotter" than others. For example, cyber consulting and financial services industry, accounting and department of defense, operations and consumer products, etc. In Deloitte's Federal practice, we are seeing high demand for accounting, cyber, technology, human capital and operations focused leaders. Hopefully this helps.

Michael - the short answer is demand will be "strong". The Federal Government is expected to continue to partner with Consulting firms to help with mission critical problems in the near and long term future. The increasing complexity of critical challenges such as Cyber threats, Workforce/Human Capital challenges, Technology advances and Accounting and Finance transformation will require the Government and Consultants to work together.

Hi Andrei

The demand for consulting professionals is expected to continue to grow. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects growth of 14% over the next 10 years. BLS classifies this growth as "much faster than average". In addition, the demand for consultants will continue to be for many disciplines - IT, Accounting, Strategy, Supply Chain, Operations, ERM, etc. Similarly, consultants will be required in virtually every industry, including Healthcare, Consumer Products, Technology/Telecom, Public Sector, Transportation and others. The bottom line - both commercial and public sector organizations face an increasingly difficult set of complex business challenges - and consultants will continue to play a critical role in helping those organizations confidently move forward. Happy to provide more specifics if you'd like.
