How do I obtain resumes from experienced veterans who attained these skills while in the service, and are now moving into the corporate world?

Hi Rex,

Have you looked into ACP AdvisorNet's job board, which is exclusively for veteran job-seekers?

If you would like to post a job opening on ACP AdvisorNet, go to the ‘Jobs’ tab and click ‘Post a Job.’ Include the job title, company name and company logo (if possible). Select an industry that applies to the job opening, and enter the zip code for the job's location. In the ‘Job Description’ section, include a summary of the position, qualifications, responsibilities, instructions for applying and contact information. You can also choose to associate the job with your ACP AdvisorNet profile, so that job-seeking Veterans may contact you with questions.

We do not charge a fee to post a job opening. Posts remain on the site for two months, and all job openings will be reviewed by ACP staff.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

Best regards,
Ali

Rex, Maybe you talk to veterans at your business as well? Also, a lot of companies have specific departments that cater to veterans and applicants.

Rex yours is the million dollar question on why so many veterans go unemployed, lack of networking. I personally would hit LinkedIn, as many transitioning military are schooled on setting up accounts, do not expect business language. That is the largest hurdle most military have in transitioning, is civilian translation. A senior IT leader may have 4 or 5 other responsibilities added to their role outside of being IT director. Sometimes you have to weed through the other "things" to find out they are the source matter expert on IT for the entire 1,000 person command, touching 20,000 customer in an interface. I emphasize to them lead YOU to their best and desired career skills first and dump some of the peripheral management for later. Military are promoted on their ability to perform their skill 1st, then their ability to train up and promote their own staff 2nd, and lastly to handle 4 to 5 other projects at the same time. Many military with 16-20 years are handling this level of work on a routine basis for 10 years! Thanks for your interest in our veteran community.

Monster.com powers Military.com. When you have access to the resume database it marks which candidates are veterans with a red/white/blue check.
