Montgomery - I echo Steve's comments and also thank you for your service. If you could send me your resume, I'd be happy to look at it. I think Steve's point #2 is spot on. Skills are the focus and you will need to translate your experience for recruiters. The other point I will add is that I think it will be a challenge to translate all of your experience to a succinct statement in front of interviewers - at least, that has been my challenge. I have found some success by focusing in on what I believe the hiring manager is looking for and only mentioning those aspects of my experience relevant to those requested responsibilities - easier said than done given a large experience base. With regards to San Antonio, I would get on some mailing lists of recruiters in the area. I would connect in with Debbie Pedigo (via LinkedIn). She is based in San Antonio as has good visibility to opportunities there as well as surrounding areas. Good luck.
I can't help you with finding work in San Antonio, but here's a couple of tidbits of advice.
1) Don't put anything out on the internet (if you are job hunting) with misspellings (Manger). Even though you are looking for advice, some of the readers may be perspective employers. Use spell-check, but don't depend on it. Reread everything at least twice before submitting it.
2) I thank you for your 23 years as an infantryman, but it won't generate much interest from employers or advisors. You say you have skills to lead and manage large groups. How come? Where did you get it? Be specific. Don't talk about being in infantry for 23 years, but mention what you did and how you got all of this great experience that you can translate into civilian management. I'm sure this information is in your resume, but this little intro you wrote is your first impression. Make it your best. Good luck in your search.
