Seeking feedback on my resume

Veteran

Adam Conaway Lake Elsinore, CA

I want to thank you for taking the time and effort to help veterans like myself transition into meaningful employment. I know your time is very valuable, and having a resource such as this is an invaluable asset when beginning a new career.

I am looking for feedback on my resume. I have applied for 17 job postings in the Training and Development field with no success.

Again thank you in advance for your time and any feedback you provide.

Best Regards,
Adam Conaway

Hi Adam,

You mentioned you have applied to 17 job postings. That sounds to me that you're taking a targeted approach, which is good. However, to clarify, did you tailor your resume to each of those opportunities? Were you specific in your summary statement?

What I encourage veterans to do that ensures a customized resume is to work with the position description on the left side of the screen and the resume on the right. Then, filter your experience through that position description. Use those achievements that are most relevant to the position description. Minimize or eliminate those that don't strengthen your case. With this approach, the resume is a custom calling card that highlights your "features and benefits" as relates to that company, that position, that career.

Additionally (if you haven't done so already), search for the job title with that company on LinkedIn and review those profiles. Also, visit the company's website, download an annual report, try to absorb the culture and its jargon, then weave that into your verbiage.

If you've done all that, balance this with the great feedback you've already received and come up with a different strategy. Persistence is key with this kind of thing.

Kind regards.
