I Work as an electrician for the US Government and I have not worked in the marketing world. I am afraid if I go to the outside world I will lose money. I make 24.52 an hour. What can I do?

Hi Edward,

Thank you for allowing me to thank you for your service.

Perhaps you can research employers who offer tuition assistance. I think Electrical Engineering combined with some business, maybe not necessarily an MBA, would be very powerful, and something you could chip away at during off hours and days off.

Best wishes in your endeavors!

Edward,

You should consider manufacturing as an area that you can apply your skills as an electrician as well as your education in business. In manufacturing we are constantly looking for talented supervisors who can troubleshoot and understand equipment as well understand the business aspects of running a factory. The military has trained you how to lead people. You have the skills to be successful in a factory. George Wilhelmsen's advice is also very good. Good luck!

Edward,

Your experience in electrical work does count in many industries, for example, electric utilities and factories with large electrical equipment, and even nuclear and fossil power plants.

You hire in as an electrician, and then after you get a feel for the processes, step up into a leadership role. In some cases, your MBA and your "hands on" experience can be enough to land you a supervisory role.

Exelon Nuclear hires people like you on a regular basis. Look for our maintenance openings on MONSTER. You would likely be a fit in our Component Maintenance Optimization group, Electrical Maintenance, or Facilities Maintenance.

Look us up. If we don't have a facility close to you and you don't want to relocate, search around for plants around you. The jobs are there, and we need people like you to step up.
