Is there a site where veterans could look for volunteering opportunities?
Answers
Hi Carlos,
If you're looking for veteran-specific volunteer opportunities, I recommend looking into The Mission Continues' service platoons. It looks like they have a volunteer platoon established in Miami, which could be a great way to volunteer with other vets in your area https://www.missioncontinues.org/service-platoon/Miami-1st-platoon
Team Rubicon is another great veteran-based volunteer organization and it focuses on disaster recovery: http://www.teamrubiconusa.org
I find Idealist.org's volunteer search function to be pretty up to date and easy to use. Here is a list of results for different volunteer opportunities in your area, although I didn't see much that mentioned working with veterans: http://www.idealist.org/search/v2/?qs=QlpoOTFBWSZTWX3m9W8AAFmfgAMIMAIJBgAAvuff4CAAiQ1NNRiaPKNGQyAEoKDFHoaTRkbU9GtpO325NUQREIEwsGohK-jycQbWxgL0L5VDxAA4T5ylwFo871UntoBCg39qVRTMCVcYhqUHFT3rCR6HC9XFdjFJ7Ayrh5zg_TRmSAvtdpYUmD6JhBHBk54ig0absl_F3JFOFCQfeb1bwA==
I hope you find these helpful, good luck!
Thank you all for excellent responses! I have looked into Team Rubicon and The Mission Continues as they both seem ideal. I do have an interest in joining veteran-related non-profits because of my background. I'm very glad to have found such communities. Thank you all.
Carlos, you can also visit Bridgespan.org. This web site has information on open board positions (you can filter by location, nonprofit focus, etc.). It also offers insightful articles on effective board service.
Best wishes for finding a match with an organization that engages your interests and skills,
Joan
