John,

Have you considered federal employment? You will find that there are two main benefits when seeking a federal career as a vet:

1. You can buy back your military times towards retirement
2. On most applications you will receive a 5-10 point preference during the hiring process

I work as a 0346 Logistics Specialist for DoD, and I own my own career services company. I encourage you to play around on www.USAJobs.gov during your career search. More importantly, make sure your resume is formatted correctly for both federal and private sector applications.

If you need additional guidance, feel free to message or email me directly. I may be well positioned to help you.

Thank you for your service. We are here to help!

Warmest Regards,

John, I suggest the first thing to do would be to assess your vocational interests. There are many online tools to assist you with that. Do you want to use your military career experience, do you want to go in an entirely different direction or does additional education appeal to you?
You could also start by making two columns. One is a list of your skills and the other list your interests. See if there are any matches or similar areas that might go together.

Good luck.

John, thank you for your service. I recommend you spend the next several weeks examining your strengths and interests and the type work you enjoy or that gives you personal satisfaction. The comments and tools described in my April 23, 2013 posting should help you. " https://acp-advisornet.org/questions/411/what-are-best-tools-veterans-self-assess-their-aptitude-capa "
Once you have identified jobs or industries that sound interesting, return to this website for help in applying.
Good luck, Bill Nobles
