I would look at PeoplExpress airlines (http://www.pexcareers.com/) - new entry into the air travel business and they will be expanding...

One suggestion is to apply to the Port Authority of New York, to work at the port of New York, it's closer to naval work than airport work. I've worked for an airline and the way to do it is to go online at the JFK Airport or LaGuardia Airport and check out job opportunities. I'm sure they always need people for maintaining airport operations. You could also consider maybe getting some studies in airplane mechanics or some kind of mechanical or technical college diploma in order to enhance your skills. Or you could start off at the bottom and work your way up, such as a janitor at the airport or a food preparer, cook at one of their restaurants. Hope this helps. Best, June

Hi Mark,
Having spent 40 years in aviation my first question is what kind of aviation work do you want?

The closest thing to your military experience would be refueling aircraft. At Newark, Kennedy and LGA airports this function would be performed by a vender, Ogden Aircraft Services being one example. The major airlines do not own their own fueling operators.

Fixed Based Operators (FBOs), located at both large and small airports, provide a range of aircraft services, for example, fueling, catering, maintenance, hangering, etc. of corporate aircraft. Teterbourgh airport in NJ is a major hub of this kind of operation.

There are some companies like AVJOBS that act as intermediaries for third parties that advertise and screen applicants for pilot, mechanic and cabin crew positions. Most of these positions require an FAA certificate.

Hi Mark....I have a link here which may help. This job with American Airlines is currently open at Newark Airport, NJ, realizing that you're in the New York area.

http://careers.aa.com/en/ac/jobposthttp://www.united.com/web/en

This second website has job openings but you would have to scan and choose your requested field of employment and a location and apply.

This other link can get you to the TSA website which also has security jobs at airports.

If you have a resume which you would like reviewed, you may send it to me and I will be happy to look it over.

Good Luck.

Hi Mark, first off, thank you for your service. In building on Walt's advice above, I did a quick search for airport jobs in New York on Google and found several listings that you can access at the link below. There seem to be positions for everything from porter to Terminal Manager.

http://www.indeed.com/q-Airport-l-New-York,-NY-jobs.html

Regardless of the position that you end up pursuing, you'll want to have a solid resume ready to go that is tailored to showcase relevant talents/skills that you possess that are pertinent to the position that you're applying for. If you have a resume ready, feel free to send it my way and I'd be happy to provide you with some feedback.

Look forward to hearing from you. -Eduardo

Mark,
Google "entry level airport jobs".
I saw thousands of possibilities.
Some were for employment services that want a fee. I would avoid these.
Also, all the major airlines have openings for entry level positions because employees are moving to higher level jobs.
Have a good answer to why you want to work at an airport and what kind of position will meet your needs.
Good Luck!
Walt
