Lots of think tanks in DC metro area; might consider an internship, unpaid intially.
Joe,
All government positions are posted at USAJobs.gov and have to be applied for through that system. I will send you a packet of information on applying for civil service positions if you will send me your email address - you can send it to: buck.buchanan@urs.com

Like all employment campaigns, it's about relationships. There's a Veteran Business Outreach Center in FL http://vboc.org/ or http://www.fsuvboc.com/ in NC --start there. On the Federal side I would start with Dept of Labor, VA and DoD. You can network through what are called OSDBU offices in each Agency to link to policy people. Try networking through Joining Forces for opportunities. Use your Student Veterans of America chapter to link to national policiy issues. e.g. The Student Veterans of America (SVA) – Elizabeth O’Herrin is a co-founder of SVA and she is currently pursuing her master’s degree in governmental studies from the Johns Hopkins University Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts & Sciences.
