Hi Seth

Please check www.ge.com/careers and use the search function as makes most sense to you. I just looked and there are two biomedical technician jobs available in NJ. But that was a cursory search.

You should also check the GE website for returning vets.

http://www.ge.com/careers/culture/us-veterans

The company is committed to honoring the service of returning vets and while that is no guarantee there are appropriate jobs, you can get information on career fairs, classes, etc. that the company is offering.

Thank you for your service and I wish you much success in the future.

Hi Seth, have you considered Boeing, based in Ridley Park near Philly? Also, LinkedIn is definitely good for getting you out there and visible to recruiters. I'd be happy to help with your resume and LinkedIn profile.

Great job providing feedback and further information. Let's continue our dialogue.

* Have you requested a "one-on-one" assigned year-long mentor from American Corporate Partners (ACP, acp-usa.org)? Lockhead Martin is one of the participating corporations.

- A well-matched assigned mentor from ACP can serve as a constructive augmentation and complement to the mentoring efforts here on the Veteran Mentor Network.

- What clear, specific, achievable and measurable goals have you established for your mentorship (e.g. "effectively communicate an introductory 30-second elevator speech")?

- Note: ACP attempts to match you with a mentor from a large corporation or other large organization. During the ACP mentor matching process, be as specific as possible with ACP, and consider waiting and passing on proposed mentors until you feel ACP has matched you with a mentor well-suited to help you meet your specific and personal career goals.

Re: "Is LinkedIn in a good avenue for employment?"
LinkedIn is one practical tool I believe all job-seekers should use. Try it, and use as you see best. A recruiter and almost anyone else will likely search LinkedIn in an effort to view your profile, so I recommend keeping your LinkedIn profile and your "base resume" aligned.

LinkedIn offers a free 12-month premium job-seeker subscription to all U.S. military Veterans.

Re: " I would really like to find employment with the federal government ..."

* Have you researched and taken any seminars or webinars about Federal Hiring and USAJbs.gov? What do you know and how comfortable are you with the Federal hiring process?

Are you open to re-location from NJ?

Re: "I am also currently in college seeking a degree in electrical engineering using the GI Bill."
Pursuing a degree is a fantastic and constructive action and decision.

* Where are you studying?

* Is it possible you can attend school full time and collect MAH (BAH for E5 with dependents)?

* When do you plan to complete your degree, and is base don part-time or full-time attendance? If you attended full-time, when could you graduate?

* How are you utilizing your school's resources in regards to your career development and your job search?

(A school's resources include: career planning center, alumni network, local alumni clubs, mentoring opportunities and programs, professors, staff, etc. Your college should be able to assist you with: goal-setting, resumes, cover letters, elevator speech, career coaching and career networking.)

Keep up the work and we'll help you achieve the career you want. The vast majority of the work is yours.

Thanks for such a rapid response. I have a linked in profile, but I haven't utilized it for job searching. Is linked in a good avenue for employment? I would really like to find employement with the federal government or a larger company like Lockheed Martin. LM designed the AEGIS radar system that I have experience when I was active duty Navy and the have a facility in Moorestown, NJ that is close to me.
I've had a couple companies show interest in me from jobs I've applied to through indeed.com. I was offered a job from a very small company for an electronics engineering technician. They offered my a salary that was about 40% lower than the median wage for the position. Also they offered next to no other benefits. I coul yet offered with a slight increase in pay and asked for some extra paid time off since the company was not able to offer a higher(competitive) salary. They refused my offer and wished my luck. The tool back their initial offer. The company seemed very unstable, but I need to find employment. I didn't think they would retract their offer. I am also currently in college seeking a degree in electrical engineering using the GI Bill. I would like to find a company that once I complete my degree I would have opportunity for promotion with the degree. I will take some time and post links for some jobs like you mentioned. Also I will get a link to my linked in profile. I do have a recent updated resume but it's not on linked in.

Can you share with us 2-5 specific job-listings that interest you? (Tools you may find helpful include http://www.indeed.com/ and linkedin.com/jobs )
