Within security, some contractors will pay you more while others will pay you minimum. If a field is easy to get into, it will become saturated and pay won't be lucrative. Armed guards pay more so consider getting your state armed guard license and unrestricted carry permits. You may want to meet your VA counselor to inquire about local resources available to veterans or enroll in a local program which helps veterans get these permits. There should be programs in geographical area you live. Such programs are able to pay for the fees and provide employment assistance as well. Once you have required permits, you may want to broker yourself to highest paying contractor in the area. Also consider going for private security like body guards, executive protection, security escorts etc as their pay scale are more likely to align to your needs.
