Transportation and / or Logistics career question.

Veteran

Travis Streeter Sr., PLS, DML Richmond, TX

I am requesting assistance from transportation and logistics advisors. I am a Transportation Management Coordinator (88N). I would like a review of my resume. Based off of the resume review; should I be focused on employment in the transportation or logistics sectors, or can I focus on both?

Thanks in advance ...

Rashid... I sent you a message.

Thanks, Marc & Christine for the input.

Tom... I have looked into some certifications and currently have a couple. I guess this is why my online profile should matchup across the information highway. Example... on LinkedIn I use, Travis Streeter Sr., PLS, DML... on ACP, I use Travis Streeter.

Hello Travis. I am happy to assist you. As always you will get some great feedback and suggestions from the seasoned advisors so please follow up on the ideas they have provided. Your post jumped out at me because I am and have been a Transportation/Logistics professional for over 20 years (military and civilian). My military Transportation background was in the Air Force (AFSC 2T0X1) and civilian experience is with the Army.

If you are planning to transition out of the military soon then I am happy to speak with you about my experience from contractor to federal employee. If you just want to get some clarity of direction with your resume preparation, professional development pursuant to a civilian career path or have a conversation about how to best highlight the best of your collective military experience, I am happy to help.

One thing I will convey is that if you are considering making the transition to the civilian workforce and you have a couple of years to decide, focus on certifications and current trends in the industry of choice. We can talk more if you like. If you want me to take a look at your resume just email it to me... l3.thebrand@gmail.com

Thanks,

R Hill

No need to read any literature, your resume is the key. What you will find is that each HR employee will have certain likes and dislikes. Tailor your resume to the position your seeking.
Sometimes you might have to accept a lower position and than work your way up. The Railroads love prior military because their structure was set up by former Army Officers.

Tom,

Thanks for the response and I always respect your advice and mentorship to everyone.

My passion and my experience may not match up. I have a passion for what I currently do in the military, which is coordinate transportation by all modes. I want to know how that translates into the private sector. Is it geared toward transportation, logistics or even operations? In the public sector, this can translate into 2100 series (Transportation), or possibly 0346 (Logistics).

I also have a passion for the Aerospace and Defense Industry (Boeing etc). I also love the Greater St. Louis / Scott AFB areas. I am originally from Georgia and I noticed the Greater Atlanta area is some sort of hub and have transportation and logistics jobs. With that said, I do not want to put on blinders. I would have to put job satisfaction, Location, and Salary (in no particular order) in the decision making and job hunting process.

The good thing is that, I haven’t submitted for retirement and do not have plans too at this point. Although, I cannot completely ignore the alternatives. Thanks…

* Also spend time researching and learning about relevant and in-demand certifications.

* Review job-listings on sites such as indeed.com and see how many job listings mention each certification.

* The organizations that issue these certifications often have local chapters and often are great sources of advice, information and mentorship.

Travis,
Only you can answer that question. What do you really want to do with the next 30-40 years of your life? What is your passion? What are your skills and interests? Your past can help you get to where you want to go, but do not let your past define your future.

Do you have any geographic preferences or requirements?

If every job paid the same salary, what sorts of jobs, roles, firms and industries would you pursue?
