Not sure if you're interested, but another way to get your foot in the door is to get some experience working with a regulator, such as the SEC or a federal bank regulator. They post open jobs on www.usajobs.gov. People are recruited out of the CFTC and SEC into industry jobs regularly.

I would start with looking at one of the many online job sites and search on financial services firms in the NYC area, for example -

I would focus more on the specific jobs available and do they match what you would like to do and what you bring to the table, rather than focusing on a specific company. Once you have experience than you can focus on specific companies from a long term career perspective.
