Looking for a job in the Intelligence field.

Veteran

Stephen Baldwin Bixby, OK

I am an intelligence analyst in the army with 5 years of experience and one deployment. I am certified in several types of Intelligence operating systems. I am still in the army and will be transitioning into civilian life within a few months. I am stumped on what criteria my job search should be under. Please help.

I came out of DIA and joined a government contractor - Sperry Corporation. There are many companies providing intelligence analysis support to entities within the IC, DHS, federal law enforcement, etc. Look at CACI, a respected provider of intelligence analysis (CACI.com). Look at their careers section on the website. If there are no IA positions currently listed - pick any opening and submit your resume. Companies like CACI go to their resume database do key-word searches before they post any new positions. They will retain your resume for a year or more. Do the same with companies like Mantech, USIS, Triple Canopy, etc. .

hi Stephen ... thanks for your service, I am grateful to you and all your colleagues.

Another idea to consider, even though it is not a direct correlation to your request, is to investigate possibilities with large corporations who require support with security systems and analysis of needs and solutions to ensure safeguards are in place. Your background might open doors to that discussion with possible employers. If that type of application interests you, another option is to create your own business as a consultant to support clients with your skills and abilities.

Also, suggest you take advantage of LinkedIn. It can be a great networking tool for you.

Hi Stephen,

Was in your situation as an intelligence analyst getting out of the military. Looked hard at related positions in CIA, DIA, FBI, DEA as Dave also mentioned. Ended up going back to school to get an MBA and became an investment analyst. The processes and skills for the new job had a surprisingly high degree of overlap with what I had been doing as a military intelligence analyst. Am happy to discuss if you would like to go into further detail.

Thank you for your service, Stephen.

My only suggestion would be to look into USA Jobs. I spent time with DHS in its early days and there was a big recruiting pull for intel types into what then was Intelligence Analysis. There have been a lot of changes since I left in '07, but that's one place you could try. There is also an intel arm at FBI (and I suspect DEA and ATF), but can't say much more than that. If there are openings, I suspect they'll be posted on USA Jobs. If nothing else, you could inquire at each of these agencies individually.

Depending on your background, there is also some (pretty limited and highly classified) intel work at Los Alamos and Sandia National Labs. These might be a tougher nut to crack, however.
