Apprenticeship

Veteran

Gerard Trapp Whippany, NJ

Hello,

I am due to get out of the Navy and was trying to reach out for
any kind of help available. A main concern is to find a school and job to
get into. I am trying to make contacts, connections, and gain
information, to find any information for highly recommended Apprenticeships. I was trying
to find an Electrician Apprenticeship or any Construction opportunities.
Really I would be interested in mostly any job or location so I can get
write to work and school.

Also, I was wondering if you might have any advice, or important reminders
to make a smooth transition.

Thank you for your service. I suggest searching for professional or trade associations that support the areas that you are looking to work. Many associations offer suggestions on training, career guidance as well as sponsored programs etc.

Good luck.

We are looking for service technicians to service medium to heavy duty trucks we sell. Most of that work revolves around electrical and onboard computer issues. We provide all the training at no charge which is in house, web based and offsite. This is offered to those individuals who demonstrate the desire and determination to want to excel in that field. If this appeals to you, contact me and we can discuss in more detail. Thank you for your support of our Country.

I see two basic approaches to your situation.

1) Use what you know and have learned and let the workforce choose your position. Working in a plant such as Dow, BASF, or other chemical/oil &gas facility would easily merit someone with a technical background.

2) Opt for hirer education and then aim for entering the workforce. The pay will be higher and the work less physically demanding depending on your career path.

I was a satcom technician in the Air Force and really enjoyed it. But for myself I did not want to be a technician any longer so I went back to school to get an engineering degree. It suits me well and now I have more choices.
