About Gerard

My name is Gerard Trapp. I am transitioning out of the Military in June-July
and was looking to find employment and some guidance and advice for Apprenticeship
opportunities as
a combat veteran and what I could be doing to start the process
now if any. Also any other advice you may have I would love to here!

A quick summary of myself..

My name is Gerard Trapp, I am 27 years old and I am currently stationed in
Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I will be transitioning out of the Navy in July this
summer,
my end of service date is September 21, 2015.
I was originally stationed in Norfolk, Virginia on the aircraft carrier USS
Dwight D. Eisenhower until this past
March, which they sent me here-Guantanamo Bay where I work as a 911
Dispatcher.
When I was one the Eisenhower for a little over two years I came in
undesignated working as a Boatswain Mate conducting Underway Replenishments
and Maintenance on the ship. I was converted to Quartermaster at the end of
my tour on the Eisenhower in which I helped with the Navigation of the ship.
In this time we deployed to the 5th FLEET, in support of OEF and receiving
multiple
command and personal awards.

Before I joined the Military I worked in Landscape Construction/Excavating
driving trucks trailers and operating machines up to CAT 350. At that time
the Economy was down and I made the decision to join for a way to finish
college and a learning experience in hopes to work as a SEABEE , which is
the Construction Field of the Navy; so in the end I would be able to leave
with certifications to bring back to the civilian side. That did not pan out
as the rate was all locked up and was not available to pick from. So I did
end up leaving with the GI BILL, life experience and wisdom, which is still
a good thing.
