How do I find work that's outside my field?

Veteran

Brian Allen Concord, CA

I have a MA in Teaching ESL and 3 years experience as an ESL teacher. I've been trying to find work, but I can't find any jobs in my field. I've been trying to find work in other areas, but I don't have any idea of what I should apply for.

Brian, thank you for your service. This is a perfect time to self-assess your aptitudes, strengths, and interests to identify other areas that offer motivating opportunities for you. My April 2013 ACP posting, “What are best tools for veterans to self-assess their aptitude, capabilities, and interests?” provided some free/low cost tools to consider, and others have added to that list later.

Best wishes, Bill Nobles

You will have to put some time, effort and money into reinventing and rebranding yourself but you are plenty young enough to do it. You may need a new degree, certs or a few certificates but with that and a LOT of networking you are young enough to "Be All You Can Be".

Lowell's got it....Corporate trainer. I have been that a few times as an employee and a contractor. Try Telecom like Comcast and CenturyLink job sites. With adults you can train them...I prefer "hands on" training for the Millennium's...you cannot "fix" them.

Brian,

You have a great skill set. The ability to take complex concepts and transition them into pure simplicity so adults and children can understand. Being a Corporate Trainer, HR Diversity Awareness, PR or Communications and Marketing.

Have additional questions just email to info@LowellSandoval.com

Best wishes,

Lowell
