Ph.D in biochemistry here from the University of Texas. I had the same question when I went to grad school. The truth of the matter is that state schools have programs for vets. Texas is famous for this. Some private schools do too.

And most schools pay their grad students a stipend. It's not much, but it's something. Fellowships can supplement. That's how I did it. I applied for, and got, a National Library of Medicine fellowship. Made a huge difference.

Liberty University, in Lynchburg Virginia, has a fantastic online program that is very military and veteran friendly. If you're currently serving you even get a book culture, a technology fee waiver, and their advisors will walk you through all of the other benefits that you are entitled to as a veteran.

Hi Theresa,

Take a look at http://www.duq.edu/academics/schools/leadership-and-professional-advancement/military-programs . GI Jobs and Military Advanced Education magazines named the School of Leadership a 2012 Military Friendly School. If this is not what you are looking for, perhaps I can help you research other programs. Let me know. (martina@duq.edu)

Most schools also offer reduced tuition and application fees. I have not seen any specific grants or financial aid from the school aimed at Service Members in particular.

Find your local chapter of SCORE www.score.org, for no cost business mentoring. Almost all colleges and universities have an on site Veterans Counselor.
