Young army vet seeking advice for joining the police force

Advisor

Gabrielle Henn Sunnyside, NY

Hi,
I am a mentor working with my protegee who is very interesting in joining the force. She has an interview coming up for a corrections officer position in KY. Any advice on how she can prepare for the oral exam?
If anyone is in the force who would like to offer their insights and advice to this highly motivated individual, please let me know as I would love to put her in touch with a professional in the field.
Thank you!
Best,
Gabrielle

Does she want to do corrections or be a peace officer? 2 diferent things with different state licenses. I would recommend finding an agency that pays you to go to their academy. Some of the smaller agencies don't offer that.

Fort Worth PD and Dallas PD are both hiring. I was Ft Worth PD for 6 years, it is a great place to work. 7 month paid academy and we got to use GI Bill.

The Houston Police Department is looking to fill our June and October classes. Schedule your first interview before April 18 and receive a $5,000 signing bonus. You will be paid to attend our 6 month academy. Make up to $44K your first year.

Out of state applicants only need to make two trips to Houston.

My only "corrections" experience consists of about 16 hours at the San Diego County Jail, while attending the Sheriff's academy; but I have experience in criminal justice as a practitioner and grad-level adjunct prof. She can contact me if desired. dlro66@yahoo.com
