I just completed my transition, full circle. I went from mid-career Army NCO, to engineering student, and now am in the professional world as an electrical engineer. My recommendation is to use your VA educational benefits to get a college degree. Have you considered a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration emphasizing logistics or supply chain management? That might pair well with your MOS/background. I really do think the only sure fire way at good job security is a degree. If you chose that route make sure you do not get a useless degrees. Do some research to figure out what those are, I'm to new to this to start offending people fine arts degrees. Andrea Elliot nailed it with the Linkedin recommendation. Do not even think about sending our resumes until you have a good looking Linkedin profile. Put that URL on your resume and it will help out a bunch. It's a social media world out there and you can tap into it with Linkedin.
Joh,
Have you looked into possible going back to school. There are many Universities that offer online courses. One that comes to mind is University of Phoenix. They have an extensive degree program offersings from undergrad to PHD level courses. Also, posting your resume on a professional website like Linkedin can help give your resume more exposure.
