Job help

Veteran

Jorge Prias Hialeah, FL

Hi I just got out of the Air Force and I'm currently trying to apply for jobs but I don't believe my resume is strong enough if anyone can help. Also while in the Air Force, I learned Urdu , if anyone knows any specific jobs that might need urdu let me know. Thanks in advance for any kind of help .

Jorge,

You have a lot of work ahead of you if you want to join the Diplomatic Corps. That said, you can do it by deliberate planning to support that long-term goal. It helps that you have a second language. Was that DLI-derived, or self-taught? Do you have DLPT scores to support this reported capability?

A lot of the linguist-translator jobs you're interested in are in the DC-VA-MD area. Are you willing to relocate? Do you have a security clearance?

I realize this may be a shotgun blast of questions, but they're specific enough to get you pointed int he right direction if you have not considered them yet. If you're comfortable enough to send your resume over, I may be able to give you a couple of pointers on it.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi Jorge,
I would suggest that you try to focus your studies in a specialized area. From your post, you may want to look at positions in Public Administration.

Right now I'm currently going to college at FIU for political Science, ideally I would want a government job over the private sector. My dream job would be to be a diplomat which I understand is a difficult process or a lobbyist.

Hi Jorge. Thank you for your service. I would be happy to review your resume with you. Other than being able to use your knowledge of Urdu, what are your career aspirations?
