Resume review and mock interviews

Advisor

Matthew Peck New York, NY

Good afternoon!

I am looking for some help reviewing and tweaking my current resume. I have attempted to minimize military terms and focus on transferable skills, but would greatly appreciate a second look. I am currently focusing on a career in Human Resources or Finance with the possibility for public sector work down the road.

Additionally, if anyone has experience administering interviews and is available to administer mock interviews and give feedback I would greatly appreciate it. It can be for a position at your company or for an old position you once held. Whatever you're comfortable with. I am still fairly new to interviewing and could use some personal feedback on do's and don'ts that one typically doesn't receive during the normal job search and interview process.

Thank you for your willingness to help transitioning service members and I look forward to hearing from you!

Matthew,

I'd be happy to look at your resume and do a mock interview. I have this germ of an idea that doing mock interviews could be a nice little gig in retirement so you would be doing me a favor too. You can reach me at swittenb@us.ibm.com.

Hi Mathew,

Thank you for your service! I would be happy to review your resume and mock interview with you.

As I work in consulting/healthcare I will not be able to prep you for industry specific questions, but can assist in helping properly structuring your responses to highlight your skills and translate your experience. If you know more specifically what you would like to do in finance and hr, I can also connect you with the appropriate people.

Please feel free to contact me at patelja@us.ibm.com

Hello Mathew,

I am not in the field you are looking to pursue, but will assist in whatever capacity you think best. I have been in roles of interview/hiring manager before also.

I suggest creating a LinkedIn profile if you do not already have one. This is a good way to network in the industries you may want to transition to as a career path. Also it may help you find groups of professionals in those areas.

I suggest not building a profile on LinkedIn that is a resume, but one that highlights you, your skillset and accomplishments.

You probably already know this site, but the ACE guide is a great tool to help translate some of the Military course work (search Courses) & MOS roles (search Occupations) into civilian terminology.

Also, your college's career planning center and alumni resources should be one of you primary sources of career development and job search assistance. They should certainly be able to help with your resume and with other services, and maybe also with mock interviews.
