I am in the process of starting a mentorship called Pink Diamond Ladies. I have the article of organization through the state of Ohio, I have a course description, the business plan, preamble, vision statement, and mission statement. I need a meeting location and a sponsorship letter as well as anything else that would be advised.
If you are going to do some tax deductible fund raising, it is great if you can obtain a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation. We found an attorney who was willing to draft the By-laws and non-profit articles of incorporation. We built a veteran memorial that cost $100k, with some of the donations over $5k each.
The nice thing about a 501 (c) 3 is that you are then defined as non profit educational program. While there a couple forms to fill out every year, one that is filed with the IRS and can be researched by folks interested in your organization and typically the state has a license fee per year.
Thanks for your question! As a non-profit professional who has experience with both fund development and organizational administration, I'd be happy to connect for a phone call and see if I can provide any resources for next steps. You can email me at email@example.com if you feel that would be helpful.
