David/Steve and Angela: Thanks very much for the advice. I will take advantage of the ACP mentoring program and other networking opportunities now. After two decades in the military it's hard to believe I am this close to the end - so I appreciate your perspectives. I am looking forward to the next chapter.

It's never too early to consider your options, Captain Chamberlin. As David suggested think about what you WANT to do with your life and start researching what is available in that area. Your management background and experience with multiple working environments should be a major plus in your quest. Think outside the box in your search. If you've supervised enough people in your life so far find something that doesn't require it. And start talking to civilians. Their world is very different than ours. It will be important for you to understand it. Good luck.

you need to figure out what field you want to go into and where you want to live. I would suspect that you could qualify for a senior position in the Homeland Defense business for sure. If you have flying skills, you might start checking with the airlines...they are very short. One thing to remember, you are just beginning another long career in the civilian world. I retired in 1984 and am still working. Went to Boeing, Smiths Aerospace, and GE Aviation in that time period. So, you are just beginning again and boy do you have leadership potential behind you!
I would start thinkiing about what you want to do in your next career. Send me an email and we can talk some more.

For clarification, is it premature for me to begin working with an ACP mentor this early (and/or commencing informational interviews)?
