Hospitality Industry/hotels & restaurants

Advisor

Ryan Brown Melbourne, FL

Hello ACP Community!

Hope everyone is having a great day. I'm interested in learning about hospitality programs for veterans and meeting other veteran that own hotels and restaurants. Are there any good associations and conferences to network with owners and franchise companies? I would love to hear any thoughts or comments about the hospitality industry as a whole.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your response. I would love to speak to someone about what they offer. I will take a look at their website.

Again, thank you for the feedback.

Ryan, I don't have a first hand answer but I live in Maine and the Hospitality industry is one of the largest economic drivers in this state. The state government is extremely vet focused and supportive and has some initiatives just for vets that could assist you to that industry...or, I've attached the link to the Maine Inn Keepers Assoc. I would suggest reaching out to them for guidance (http://www.maineinns.com/about-us/), Or, I could reach out for you, and finally, I am a coordinating with a vet. assistance/job placement group here in ME and could ask then to get in touch with you to start networking if this would be something you desire. good luck either way. Hi Kristie,

Hope all is well. Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to give your feedback. What is your dream job? My dream job is working for a construction or development firm that specializes in the hospitality industry or even working directly for one of the major brand hotel in their construction/development department. Where would you like to be in 5 years? I would like to be a franchisee restaurant owner and have my own construction firm specializing in the hospitality industry. Where would you like to live? I would like to continue living in Florida.

Again, thank you for your feedback.

Good Morning Ryan -

I am little bias towards this industry because I LOVE it. It is a dynamic, exciting, extremely challenging and rewarding business with incredible opportunity for committed, focused, passionate individuals.

Another great aspect is you get paid while you learn. Dishwashers become prep-cooks, prep-cooks become line cooks, line-cooks become Sous Chefs and Sous Chefs become Executive Chefs. Or if you are interested in the front of the house, busers become hosts, host become server assistants, server assistants become servers, then floor managers, then general managers if they have the right stuff. Though I am not in the hotel business, I suspect if you join a company that promotes from within, with dedication you will be able to move quickly up the ranks.

What area of the business interests you? There is a whole support system of purveyors, salespeople, alcohol reps etc that support these engines.

The National Restaurant Association has a link that can match your skills to job posts by entering your military job code http://www.restaurant.org/Industry-Impact/Giving-Back/Military-Foundation/Find-a-Job
They have other programs that can link you to employers.

What is your dream job? Where would you like to be in 5 years? Where would you like to live? Hopefully I can tailor some specific info that will help you achieve it.

Warm regards,
Kristie Campbell
