Hello Aimee.
It sounds like you might benefit from taking a "career aptitude test". A career aptitude test is an assessment that provides career suggestions based on your personality, skills, interests and values. They are sets of questions that will take a short time to answer and complete. There are many free ones online. I would stay away from any that try to get you into "their program" and manage your job search or train you, they will most likely want to charge you a fee. You might see if you can find any from impartial parties, like a university or gov agency.
Here are a couple I found that I think are impartial:

I think it would be worth your time to do a few of these. They may give you new ideas or directions, or confirm in your mind what your strengths and likes are. If they give you some insight into yourself, or some ideas, then it is worth your time. You may find that you do not agree with some recommendations, and that is OK too!
One more suggestion. If your mom needs a lot of attention, you might look into your state's laws. Some states will pay you for hours spent taking care of your mom.
Lastly, it is great that you have a degree. Your degree will open many doors...in a small town like Sheboygan there may be doors but not many people to go through them! That is, you may not have much competition.
Thanks for your service!
Hi there, have you applied to VA VR&E veteran readiness and employment? I used this benefit and it really helped me.
Quick review of your previous questions, have you thought about a career in corporate security? I'm not talking about uniformed security services, but most medium to large corporations have key advisors on corporate security. If satellite offices or locations have security threats, they reach out for advice and coordinating support if necessary. This can be everything from assessing the physical security of a work location, to knowing how to handle a terminated employee that has made threats and working with local law enforcement to handle it. With your background, sounds like you have both security training and operational experience as well as working in multiple settings so you understand what really happens. Just a thought.
I definitely agree with the "career assessment" recommendation with the caution that the results need to be carefully interpreted for you. I would also strongly recommend considering taking the CliftonStrengths assessment --my advice for you starts with asking questions about what you "love" doing. There are other resources on strengths -- some great books like "love and work" that could also help you. The first key question has to be knowing what you get strength from doing!!! 212-Careers.com
With all your training and experience, it looks like there are many opportunities,

Hi Aimee,
Thank you for posting! Have you applied to be a Protege in the mentorship program? If not, you can apply at https://www.acp-usa.org/mentoring-program/veteran-application.
