lots of good advice, particularly in creating a business plan -it becomes a roadmap for starting and running your business. You should share what type of business you're thinking about -it might get more suggestions -I am a business broker in Florida and I sell businesses -generally you are better off buying a successful business than starting your own . It gives you instant cashflow. In Florida the least needed to buy is about $30,000. I'd stay away from franchises.

Some cities have a program called SCORE where you can get free advice from retired executives on various business-related topics. These organizations also usually offer free or low cost workshops to get you started.

If you have a specific topic to research ask your local research librarian. I have found that they love to help research information for people e.g. market statistics, government grants etc that might be useful for business planning

I think it would help to know more about what you're trying to do: what kind of business; etc. Is it a retail storefront business, a service oriented business, consulting, Internet based business, a strategy requiring inventory, etc? It seems most advisors on this web page have lots of specific background that could be of service to you if you were more detailed about what you're looking to do.
