Mentor, can anyone help with helping me plan?

Veteran

Tiffany Whetzel Derby, KS

Hello,

I will be retiring from the Air Force in November 2016. I am looking for a mentor to locate employment in the education and training environment anywhere in Texas. I have a Masters in Education and will have an EdD completed in 2016 in Educational Leadership. I have an Instructional Design Certification, and my Green Belt. I am currently an Adjunct Professor for two local schools. Thank you for anyone that can assist.

Tiffany: If you have your Ed.D in Educational Leadership why not apply for jobs in the public schools where any larger ones, e.g. Dallas, Houston, etc. have entire departments of training and development and are always on the lookout for veterans like yourself with both military experience and educational credentials. If higher education is your goal you are on the right track as adjunct professor which is a gateway to a full time assistant position. Either way good luck and let me know if I can be of further advisory assistance. csny

There are a few educational content and product providers in Texas. They service contracts with districts and states with a variety of products that schools, districts and states use to support their educational goals. These companies need people that have educational backgrounds. Additionally you can look at education agencies, such as the Texas Education Agency. With your education, there could be good opportunities there.

Most large corporations have on-going leadership, management and supervisory skills training programs at their locations. Some of these are led by external consulting firms, but many have their own training staff -- usually within the human resources department. Look for companies that have a large number of employees in the locations that you prefer. Contact their HR departments and submit a resume along with an application for employment in a management development role or in a training position. Also, check out consulting firms that offer leadership and management training in your area -- some of them may not be headquartered in Texas, but conduct a lot of programs there. Contact me if you want to discuss.
