Hi Zachary,
To begin the educational process of learning the nuts and bolts of building a Export/Import business, I would suggest starting with the US Department of Commerce. If you are currently in Sacramento, CA, you can contact the U.S. Commercial Service located in the U.S. Export Assistance Center (USEAC) in Sacramento, California: http://www.export.gov/california/sacramento/. I have worked very closely with my USEAC in Arizona throughout my international career and can attest to their knowledge and professionalism regarding Export matters. The website: www.trade.gov is a very useful resource to get you started, as is their complimentary guide "A Basic Guide to Exporting," which you can download online: http://www.export.gov/basicguide/.

In addition, you would be well advised to reach out to your local District Export Council (DEC) group for additional local services. The DEC is national organization comprised of local DEC's (59 DEC's throughout the USA) which are made up of local professionals with varying areas of expertise in international business. These members work on a volunteer basis to mentor individuals and business on issues related to Export/Import. The regional DEC's work closely in support of their local US Commercial Services and also offer a wide variety of free services.

I have been a member of the Arizona District Export Council for many years and can assure you that your local DEC will be eager to assist you as you move through the process of building your Import/Export Business.

Please feel free to follow up with me if you have any additional questions. All the best in your global adventures!

Best regards,

Gunnar

Seems like a common spam/scam (about 42 acp-advironet.org questions asking the very same thing from Southern California):
