I keep applying on USA Jobs and Private entities yet I have been unsuccessful locating an attorney job. Is there federal funding for attorney veteran firms?

Hi Lynnell -
I am seeking to hire a General Counsel for my transportation business and real estate holdings. I am just about to begin recruiting. We have an office in Maryland however the job is in Los Angeles.

The person in the position is responsible for general legal business matters such as contracts, leases, insurance, regulatory compliance, human resource issues, and overseeing outside counsel.

Aside from competence, we are looking for (1) integrity ; (2) easy to work with; (3) willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.

You are welcome to send me your resume. Additionally I have a friend who is on the hiring committee of an international law firm and I can pass your resume along to him if you like.

Best wishes ,

Ethan

There is a surplus of attorneys so employers can be picky. They want safe hires-someone with a track record or someone they know.

Do you have a city or county bar association? If so, join it and attend as many events as possible to network. Have a 30 second summary of your abilities memorized and share it with as many people as possible.

Volunteer. Look for situations where you will be working with more experienced attorneys who will have connections.

Contact public and private legal employers. Find someone in a leadership position and ask them for a 20 minute meeting to get their advice about how to succeed in a legal career. Use the time to get advice, not to sell yourself.

Hang around the Court House. When you see someone there on a regular basis, introduce yourself and find out who they are and what they do.

Bar membership is absolutely essential. Multi-state Bar membership is a great PLUS.

Then visit the local city or county Bar Office and find out what they offer. Then send a "Shot Gun" letter to all the local Law Firms - big and small. Contact the local City Attorney and DA's Office.
Good luck.

Funds are available for public defenders. Have you passed the BAR in your state ? Did you go down to the public defender office in your county and talk with the office manager there?
