Veteran

my problem is getting an internship with a licensed psychologist so I can apply for my
Georgia state license. My final goal is to be a licensed psychologist so I can counsel soldiers with PTSD.

Arthur,
Are you a member of the APA or AAMFT? Students can be members either for free or at a significant discount. Look into joining a local chapter and getting involved with them. This is a great way to begin networking,. Additionally, depending on the local non-profit organizations in your area, I would suggest reaching out to them for internships or volunteer opportunities - check to see if there is a licensed psychologist on staff who could supervise you for your hours.

As Denise mentions above, see what internships are available through your program. Most psychology programs offer internships with organizations that will provide oversight for your hours.

Lastly, check in with any of your professors and see if they are taking on interns. If they aren't, ask if any of their colleagues are and if you could meet with them.

Best of luck - I know it's not easy.

Have you tried to network with licensed psychologists, through professional associations or general referrals, even through your alma mater? There may be limitations, as given in another answer, but you may still gain the valuable opportunity to learn from an experienced professional without being in on discussions with patients. Best wishes.

CSM,

Have you attempted to intern on any posts with Behavioral Health? I imagine they would not want you to be in a leadership position due to HIPPA and stigmatization (or the perception thereof).
