I just did a quick search for your area go http://www.benefits.va.gov/neworleans/ on the site will give you information when applying for benefits. Also look up veterans service offices in your area. That way you can go there in person. Once you do make sure that you have copies of any DD-214's that you have. Also I think now they have digital copies of DD-214's. After you get registered they will assign a VA hospital location for to go. If there isn't any in your area. I know that certain types of medical needs can be met at civilian medical facilities, but you will need to be registered first.

How long has it been since you separated? or are you still part of the National Guard?
