Hi Gaye,
As others have stated, LinkedIn is a great resource. Recruiters use the profiles to seek out potential job applicants and will contact you directly. Also give insurance and managed care companies a try (Google Aetna; United Healthcare, etc.) as they employ many professionals with Health Care Administration degrees.
Hi Gaye,
I am an ex-Navy guy with a heavy background in Technology Manufacturing and Service. Not your bailiwick I know but you might find a resource I have used helpful. Take a look at a web resource called LinkedIn. It is a networking website for professionals from all professionals and it is nation wide. It is free to join or you can pay to activate it for active job searches.
Good luck.

Gaye,
Any feedback or follow up questions? Has any advice you've received here or elsewhere been useful?
Hi Gaye,
Thank you so much for your service!
The premier healthcare organization representing administrators within acute care facilities is the American College of Healthcare Executives https://www.ache.org/. They have a strong chapter program including one there in Wake County http://thefnc.ache.org/. If you want to pursue a career in acute care, is would be highly desirable if you were to possess their board certification which is that of a Fellow (FACHE).
Can't stress enough the importance of Networking and LinkedIn is a great tool in which to develop that network.
Best wishes,
Dave Icenhower
Gaye,
Lots of good answers above.
Here is another one to consider for networking: American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (http://www.aaham.org/). See if there is a Raleigh or North Carolina chapter and attend their next open meeting to meet other professionals in your line of work. Before you attend, research this line of work and try to narrow it down to something like "A Healthcare Administrative Management position in a health insurance company in the Raleigh area." The more specific you are, the easier it will be for others to assist you and the easier it will be for you to get hired. This means you need to do your share of research to say exactly what you want based on your needs and preferences.
There are professional associations for almost any line of work. If this association does not meet your needs, Google "professional associations for XXX".
Also, Google "Healthcare administration jobs in Raleigh" to get some idea of advertised positions in your area. Many list qualifications and salary so this can help you narrow down your target jobs and focus your resume. Use the advertised jobs to identify other organizations that may better meet your needs. For example, the colleges in your area often are have a hospital system that needs admin managers. One of the colleges may be close to where you live but only posts their openings internally so you will need to reach out to them and identify the opportunities.
Lastly, for your target job(s), make sure you have a focused resume tailored to the position you are seeking. And be sure to do your research of each organization before you apply. The more you know about them, the better you will be able to answer the interview questions.
Good Luck!
Gayle,
What do you want to do. Outside of thinking just of traditional employers, think outside of the box. Explore nursing homes and arrange a "informational interview", consider specialty clinics such as Davita, in the town you moved to Grifols is a plasma and blood clinic company, American Red Cross
Look at the list of companies on Hire the Heroes web site and call HR to identify the Veteran Hiring Program Mgr. However 1st step is get on LinkedIn and join industry groups to network. Lastly 11/15/14 my university is hosting an online Healthcare Career Conference with employers looking for healthcare management and business talent. If you're interested in attending send me a note and I'll send you the link for free
Jeff.
Gaye, I would find out where health care trade shows are in your area and go to them with a well-written resume. Also, contact your local Chambers of Commerce. Arrange for a meeting and see if they can guide you. Place your resume online with the Chamber.
Be4st wishes,

Hi Gaye,
I am a member of the veterans' chamber of commerce in Connecticut, do recommend that you look for a networking contact in any of the COC's - any state will do. I know that some of the veterans/members in CT are in the Insurance field, probably have contacts at hospitals/other health care organizations. Best of luck, networking is the way to go.
I follow healthcare companies and engage with them on Twitter by following these healthcare hashtags http://getreferralmd.com/2013/11/top-healthcare-twitter-hashtags-use-tweeting/ (#hcldr #aco, #HCIT) I know they are not all in Raleigh, but a good starting point to engage with other healthcare professionals that might be able to help.
Connect with the state chapter of the MGMA or other professional organizations. Most have career postings available to view. Speak with the state chapter Chair, ask for state specific ideas to connect with current Managers in hospitals and large physician organization practices. Narrow your field of interest (specialty, administration, patient-centered management, etc.). Nancy F
Thanks for the service and good luck. It goes without saying but networking is key. If you have not already, set up a Linkedin profile and join groups related to healthcare and jobs. Please let me know if I can help in any way- Best, Doug Lavelle

Hi Gaye...
First, many thanks for your service!
There are several steps for you to network. Work with your graduate school for possible career coaching and employment leads. Reach out to any pharmaceuticals in your area / state. Hospitals, and VA hospitals are another outlet. Mention your professional concerns to anyone you meet including physicians and medical professionals. I would be happy to review your resume. Just email to me. Wishing you the best!
