Background Check and a Employment Verification Business

Veteran

Herbert Mack West New York, NJ

I am in the early stages of developing an employment verification and background check business. How often are these types of services used and do employers conduct there own background checks?

Hi. I run a health care company in Illinois and we, as well as the schools, law enforcement, day care and other agencies are required to have clear background checks on file. We pay approximately $40 per check to a company and I have 350 employees. I have approximately 20 similar companies in my county alone. It is a great money maker that requires a small investment in equipment and as many or few employees as needed. Our vendor simply rents a conference room in an office building once a week.

Herbert,
I advise you request both a face-to-face and a remote mentor from SCORE.org.

e.g. "Aurico Reports, Inc. Grows With Assistance of SCORE Mentor"
https://inlandempire.score.org/success-stories/aurico-reports-inc-grows-assistance-score-mentor

Which firms offer these services today, and how and why will the services you offer be similar, different, better, etc.?

Finally, I recommend you purchase and read the book "Lean Startup".

Hi Herbert,
I have just today joined the ACP AdvisorNet team so I've not yet added a photo. To your question; in my experience all companies in my industry require employment verification and background checks including credit checks. The vendors that I have used and familiar with are typically long-term in the business and have established reputations and offer additional services as well. I also find that it is a competitive business. Vendors must be extremely thorough, info accurate/reliable and timeframes for delivery is also important (2 - 3 weeks at most).

Hi Herbert, I have worked in the Healthcare, Insurarance and Financial industries. Background checks are required for all new hires and, in addition, it is required that all 3rd party vendors that are used conduct background checks on their own employees. In all cases, these companies do not contduct their own background checks, they relay on 3rd party vendors to do so.
