Job Openings in the Colorado Springs area.

Veteran

Rebekkah Ostwald Colorado Springs, CO

Does anyone know of any job openings in the Colorado Springs area? I just graduated with an Associates degree in Healthcare Admin but have not had any luck landing a job yet. I have been out of the Army for over a year now. I was a logistician in the Army. So I have a great area of knowledge. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rebekkah,
I highly recommend you look at joining MGMA if you are interested in the medical group management side of HCA. They are the premier organization of large and small group practice administrators. They also have a fantastic certification program (ACMPE) that will position you very well to manage the many varied tasks required of you in that role. I am not employed by MGMA, just think very highly of them. Their website is www.mgma.com.
Colorado has a group affiliated with national MGMA and they have a job board. Here is a link to that resource http://tinyurl.com/o8a6wjn.

Thank you for your service and good luck in your new career!

Hi Rebekkah,

You can use aggregator sites such as Indeed.com where you can limit postings to a geographic area as well as industry and other factors. Sometimes, you have the option of applying through that site, but I strongly recommend going to the company's site and applying there. Additionally, use LinkedIn to search out companies in the local area that you are intereested in and who you might know who can connect you to others who work there. You can also seek out any local industry/field netwroking groups and events that you can join. These groups will either be online only or may also have physical events you can attend.

I hope that helps.

best regards,

Spike

Rebekkah:

Thanks so much for serving our country. I'll bet the 15 years in the service provided you with many rewarding learning opportunities that you can effectively apply to your next position in civilian life. But you have to convey this to prospective employers. Let them know how you can fit into their company. Remember, right now, you're an unknown to them. It's your job to sell your skill set to them.

Also, you sound confident that your associate's degree and your military experience should prepare you for a career and I agree, particularly because it could be in healthcare administration. This is a wide open field and there should be ample, fulfilling job opportnities in Colorado Springs or, for that matter, anywhere in the States.

I would highly recommend you clearly define your job and career aspirations before any interview and then reflect that in your resume. Employers are looking for people who've focused on where they're going. You should identify clear and concise short term goals and provide more general goals for a long term position.

I'd me more than willing to review your resume if you'd send me a copy. Let's get you moving in the right direction.
Very best regards, Pat Hollis

Rebekkah,
Try http://www.simplyhired.com/.
I saw lots of healthcare admin jobs in Colorado Springs.
Also, check out any local health insurance companies, hospitals, group practices, or other health care providers in your area. Call, talk to office or employment managers, find out about jobs they have open, how to apply, and so forth. If they have none, do they know anyone who might have a job for you.
By the way, it's not clear what kind of job you want. I don't see much overlap between healthcare admin jobs and logistics jobs unless it's with a trucking company managing the delivery of healthcare equipment to doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, and home patients.
I assume you have separate resumes for each kind of work you want to do so you don't confuse your potential employer. All employers are looking for employees that know what they want and why they applied at their company. The best job for you is the one that meets all your needs. If you are not clear on your top ten needs, then write them down in descending order. Also, be clear on your short and long term goals. You selected Healthcare Admin as a career path to some destination. If that destination has changed, then you need to get on a new path. When I retired from the Navy, I tried many career paths until I figured out exactly who I wanted to be. Each job was a learning experience as I developed my criteria for the perfect job.
My final advice: Talk to everyone you can about exactly what you want. Look at job search like shopping - the more specific you are about what you want, the more choices you have that meet your needs. Don't look for a job - look for the perfect job for you. It's out there - you just need to find it!
Good Luck!
Walt
