I work in an elderly daycare as an occupational therapist & I see people pass away a lot. I also drive 50 minutes & sometimes more with traffic one way. I would like a different job that is more uplifting. Based on my experiences, my work ethic, & what brings joy to my heart, what job would you recommend for me?

In the Air Force, I got “Below the Zone”, I also won The Angel Award for my base for volunteering in Hippo Therapy, Physical Therapy, Weight Loss Prgm, & in the base hospital.

I competed & won a full scholarship to the Fashion Institute of Atlanta by designing my own business. I received a degree & my GPA was a 3.9.

I received a degree after the military in Occupational Therapy & graduated with honors with a GPA of 3.6.

I accepted Jesus in my heart when I was 6 years old & went to Seminary school for missions for a little while. Having young children at the time & the hour & 1/2 drive made it difficult to complete. However, I am doing Kingdom work within my community at the Fuzion Teen Center in Mooresville, NC & enjoy it. I would like to continue the director’s position as it’s only on Mondays & Thursdays from 4-7 & 4-6. I don’t get paid but we serve teens at risk & I have them learning difference trades in partnership with Lowe’s & Floor and Decor. We also teach them about God & a teen just recently gave their life to Christ!

Sarah, you have a broad range of talents and interests and are lucky enough to be able to take any path.

Be very careful in your pursuits of positions in the fashion industry. I have a relative, in the Carolinas, that struggled in that industry. NY City is the hub for that, and it is difficult in the rest of the country. Now if you wanted to work fashion retail(malls etc.), there are jobs there, but lots of unpaid OT. I knew a gal with a fashion merchandising (Assoc.Deg.) that worked retail. She was an assistant manager and worked lots of unpaid OT.

With your interests, I would recommend church/ministry/community related positions. You might enjoy working with kids more than elderly. There seem to be plenty of Christian schools, and youth outreach programs in my area...maybe in yours. Also, reading tutors/instructors seems to be in demand now. I recommend phonics! (ex.Phyllis Schlafly phonics) Regarding youth outreach, you have a lot experience, and so many youth have no idea what direction to take in life. Hopefully, this gives you some ideas.

Many thanks for your service and good luck!

Hi Sarah!
Thank you for your service! I can understand why you would want to change out of occupational therapy, and it's a great tool to take with you but you have a good chance of moving into something else. What calls your name? Office management work? Private sector, public sector? Retail? If you have a current résumé, I would be happy to translate it into a future position. Send me your military background (supply chain, office work, ? whatever, as well as your OT background).. Also, a list of your goals or types of jobs you are interested in. Then we can see how we put it together. Hope this helps! Kind regards, Liz Campanelli

Thank you Richard for the information but I’m an occupational therapist, not a physical therapist. I also want to get out of working with patients.
I am asking for job opportunities that have to do with fashion, Christian organizations, or other jobs that is exciting to me :) I enjoy serving people & helping them with their disability but I want to try something different now.
