I don't have a top secret, but I do have a secret clearance. If the incentives good enough to support me and my family I would consider relocating.

Well I work for armed security company "Paragon Systems" and along side the Office of Protective Security Services and with that I am learning a lot since being here a year. I am studying Project Management at University of Phoenix, and I have some experience from my unit about physical security, which they are a MP Unit.

Andrew, I recommend the following:

1. Research the top companies in the phsyical security space (Kroll, etc.) and then work through your network, advisors on this site or directly at companies of interest to get informational interviews. The objective is to find out directly from the sector's practitioners what skills and experiences they value and what are interesting career paths to pursue.

2. Look into what relevant certifications you can obtain, such as the ASIS physical security certification. I've found that the information security certifications I've obtained over the years have been extremely valuable to my career.

Let me know if I can help directly in any way.

Thanks,

Joel

Hi: I agree with Lisa. It goes back to the old saying "it is not what you know, but who you know", so networking is exactly what you need to do. I am curious about your qualifications and how those match the required skills, abilities, knowledge and experience for a Physical Security position? Care to share? As a career counselor/coach I always begin with this question as a foundation to building a career strategic plan. If you would like to explore this further off line please email or call me: AnnaMaria Bliven, abliven@tds.net, 608-426-4184.

There are great groups on Linked in. Search your field and join the discussion. The topics are relevant and the resources shared are valuable. Also it is one of the first places members turn to when looking for employees.
