Ownership of logos, trademarks for fashion clothing brands
Answers
Hi Chance!
Congratulations on creating your logo for your fashion brand!
You'll need to register it through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office:
http://www.uspto.gov/trademark
While the site can be a bit complicated, you can do it yourself with some patience.
As advisor Michael Mitchel said, you don't need an expensive trademark registration service to do it for you.
Good luck on your trademark registration!
Best wishes,
Ming
Chance,
Trademarking is always a good thing but, BE CAREFUL! There are hundreds of companies who'll charge you $100's to Thousands to do this for you. They all seem legit but there is only 1 US Patent and Trademark office.
Its so simple to register yourself too. Simply go to http://www.uspto.gov/trademark, follow the instructions and do it yourself. Again, I cannot stress enough how simple this process really is and I know you can do it yourself. Don't use those other companies, its a waste of time and money.
When you do get your Trademark its good for many years. Those same companies will get your info off of the Fed's website and begin hounding you to renew your trademark, its ridiculous.
I have two trademarks and I did both myself. If I can do it, I'm sure it'll be a no-brainer for you!
Best of luck,
Michael
Chance,
My family has been in the garment industry for decades here in Los Angeles. Most of the time it's not worth getting a trademark until you are actually producing the apparel, selling it, and profiting enough for your business to fund it.
There's a lot of details in regards to starting an apparel business. Contact me anytime.
Good Morning Chance,
Perhaps you have already done so but, the internet e.g. Google offers a vast amount of information addressing your question. Caution...do your home work and make sure that before it costs you a dime, you are completely comfortable with the process and that may include consultation with your attorney.
More importantly, fashion is a very competitive and fickle business. I'm curious....what is the ONE THING that makes your fashion brand stand out from all the others? And, don't ask that question of a friend or relative. Source that information from people whom you've never before seen and go after your target economic, gender and age groups. Having satisfactorily answered that, then determine what is the most efficient and cost effective way to move your line into the market channel?
Wish you all the best and have a good one...Wally Franz
