I am looking for a mentor in the Homeland Security and Security field. Is there anyone out there that can help me out?

I just retired from the U.S. Navy where I served as Military Police and as a Antiterrorism Officer. I am pursuing a career in the Homeland Security field or Security. I have an Associate's in Arts in Criminal Justice and I will have my Bachelor's in Arts in Public Safety Administration.

Dear Marlon Hernandez:

Thank you so much for your service to our country. I believe that you have a good- background and experience in the field of national security. You have now a good --
direction with the previous advisors. Remember that national security at its best, -----
because it's not the same world at this time.

Have you a good holydays season.

Marlon,

Thank you for your service. Homeland Security is a BIG area, so what area are you most interested in? If it is physical security, there are a number of opportunities, but my experience is that DHS seems not to providing as much support in this area as they had been a decade ago. There are other related organizations looking for this expertise, but best to send me a message on that.

If on the other hand, you are more interested in emergency response/disaster management/mitigation, that's a whole different arena. Clearly FEMA is the center of gravity for that at DHS, but again, there are state agencies that tie back to DHS in this arena.

If you are still interested in the law enforcement and being in the field side of things, there is also the part of DHS that has Customs and Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Happy to talk with you.

Today especially thanks for your service. I have contacts at the Dept. of Justice, G4S, ICE, L-3, etc. that I'm sure provide coaching and career guidance. If you send me a message I'll facilitate introductions.
